Bumfromjersey let me know about the poll ESPN.com did a few days ago that asked who is the most hated athlete in sports.
Terrell Owens, Barry Bonds, Curt Schilling and Bodie Miller were the choices.
Bum voted for Bonds, saying, "I was suprised but Terrell Owens was clearly the winner across the world and that is no exaggeration. Personally, I voted for Barry Bonds because he is a pompus ass who thinks he did nothing wrong even though he broke the law (this could describe Curt Schilling too but he has not broken any laws that we know of yet) but apparently most folks across this blue-green orb do not agree with me."
I have to question the ballot itself. Bodie Miller? I think he won more fans than lost with the whole "skiing wasted" thing, and he's a skier. If this wasn't an Olympic year, 3 people would care instead of the 12 that do now. Where's Ron Artest on the ballot? If you want another white guy (which has to factor into why Bodie was picked), what about Jeremy Roenick?
Schilling pisses people off because he speaks his mind. But 95% of people that hate him honestly just hate that he's the best big-game pitcher of his era, and one of the best pitchers of his era, period.
I'd say it's between Owens and Bonds, but Bonds would be my choice simply because of the whole steroid saga. Long-term, people are not going to remember Owens' problems as much as they will remember Bonds'.
