Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

If you think it's slow right now, just imagine how bad it would be without this faux tourney called the WBC. I have more interest in the WBC boxing title than the baseball version.
But I'm not alone. Yard Work, either out of boredom or a more serious problem, hasn't published in 2006. Although I am a fan of the last entry, Hee-Sop Choi's lament against Nomar, "Where is the love for... MY UNTORN GROIN?"

Baseball Musings does fielding charts (lots of posts) and takes on Google over its surrender to China. I pop up in those comments a couple times.

Baseball Savior, a Yankee blog, has its own URL now. Baseballsavior.com. Check it out -- hopefully he continues the retrospective on NYY World Series appearances.

The WeblogthatDerekbuilt mourns Gotham's loss of Anna Benson. I understand, good sir, I understand.

The excellent Aaron Gleeman is compiling a list of the 40 greatest Twins ever (#39 - Scott Erickson) that were surely be a better effort than my rating of the 2006 HOF hopefuls.

Bat-Girl, the other outstanding Twins blogger, links to the Star Tribune, the paper that gave me my start, and the terribly sad story of Jeff Reardon.

That's about it, for the moment, to carry you through baseball's boring period.
Oh yeah, random song recommendation: Anything from Blue Oyster Cult's Tyranny and Mutation, but I'm fond in particular of "Mistress of the Salmon Salt" right now. Stupidest name ever, I know. But good song.
