Interesting argument, and does delve into the dominance which Rice had during his time (a time, by the way, that seems rather weak). Still, it's important to do well compared to peers and lead the league in things (as opposed to some of these pitchers up for election).
I haven't addressed Rice yet in my on-going HOF 2006 series, but this will be a good primer.

Only misleading stat: McAdam says only 9 players have matched his .298 average and 382 HR. Problem is, he just finished saying how statistical benchmarks (.300 and 400 HR, in this case) are arbitrary. Also, those 9 players all have at least 93 more home runs than him, and the two closest (Musial and Gehrig) hit over 30 points higher in their careers. You can't make the standard for an exclusive club the guy who is most inferior.
