Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

ESPN.com recap of Radke's shutout
Brad Radke used to be the ace of the Minnesota Twins. He once won 20 games, too (1997). Funny thing is, he used to be overrated for a couple of years after that season (especially his 12-16, 4.45 year in 2000).
Now, Johan Santana (24-7, 317 K in his last 40 starts) is the ace, and nobody notices Radke anymore. Even as he's delivered 32+ starts and 212+ innings for 8 of the last 9 years. Even as, with little run support, he's generated 114 wins in those 9 years, with 32 CG and 8 shutouts.

He's not a HOFer by any means. He's had 5 years over a 4.00 ERA in those 9, and he's given up a career .274 BA. But he's durable, loyal, and can win without striking out 10 a game. And still only 32 years old.
